Monthly General Meeting
** Tuesday - May 5th - 6:30-9:00PM **
THIS MONTH:
"Virtualizing the Desktop" - Providing multiple operating system
environments through the
use of Linux and open-source virtualization software. presented by Jerry
Feldman of
Boston Linux & Unix
Jerry Feldman has been a computer programmer/software engineer almost
continually since 1972.
He first worked with virtualization with IBM's VM370 in the mid-1970s. As a
computer programmer
and not a system administrator, his interest in virtualization stems
primarily in using it as
a tool to either be able to run applications that could not otherwise run on
native Linux
or to run several different versions of Linux.
Jerry will explain how to run virtualization on your desktop and laptop
systems.
You should attend this presentation if:
* You want to run Windows and want to try Linux, but don't want to set
up dual booting.
* You run Linux, but need to run Windows for some specific applications
that won't run on
Linux (and Linux with WINE).
* You have Windows Vista, but some applications don't run properly, so
you want to install
Windows XP in a Virtual Machine
Jerry will also discuss some of the networking features available with
virtualization including
assigning different IP addresses to each virtual machine even while sharing
a single physical
network interface (NIC).
*
Please join us on Tuesday, May 5th at 6:30PM where we will be
Meeting at Microsoft's Waltham Offices, 201 Jones Road, Waltham, Mass.
Please see our web site for directions to the meeting location.

Career Strategies
-----------------
Personal networking and job search activities for today's challenging IT job
market.
presented by: Brian M. Hoffman, Partner of Winter, Wyman & Company
In order to succeed, a job seeker cannot rely solely on one method of
searching. An effective job search campaign generally relies on the
implementation of four methods of searching: networking, responding to ads,
working with recruiters and contacting companies directly.
Brian's presentation will give special attention to:
* The resume - style, format, length, details, descriptions, and 'limiters'
* Putting the 'Person' back in interpersonal networking
* Professional & Social Networking Sites - which ones, how much do you
share??
* Job search sites - "Internet BINGO" and the "Monster(.com) Mash
* Interview techniques - what works and what doesn't
* Current market dynamics - what's happening now; what do we expect through
'09 and beyond?
* Follow-up, follow-through, and keeping your presence active
Brian Hoffman is a Partner with Winter, Wyman & Company of Waltham,
Massachusetts and is a senior practice manager, specializing in search and
staffing for experienced professionals in Information Systems and
Technologies.
Please join us on Tuesday, May 5th at 6:30PM where we will be
