Smith The ultimate bad-hair day for a Webmaster is when they discover that their Web site has been broken into and is being used by cyber-criminals. The discovery can come in the form of a warning email from Google or a message from a Web site visitor whose anti-virus software is finding malware on the site. Even worse for a Web site, most modern browsers will simply block visitors from coming to a Web site that has been determined to be unsafe. A breached Web site will mean lost visitors and lost revenues. What's a Webmaster to do? BIO --- Richard M. Smith, a Boston-based Internet consultant, has helped Web sites to deal with security breaches. On the way, he has learned the right and wrong ways to clean up a Web site after break-in. More importantly he will offer advice on avoiding future break-ins at a site by an intruder using the same security weaknesses of a site or by hidden backdoors left behind after the first break-in. If the bad guys have found their way into a Web site, it is likely they will be back even after a successful clean-up. Richard will also discuss how Web site break-ins are used as a part of the cyber-criminal ecosystem to support activities such as pill spam, phishing scams, and malware distribution. Have you ever had performance, reliability or compatibility issues with your tape backup system? How do you deal with an ever increasing data store with a constant or shrinking backup window. Do you wish there was a better way? There is . Glenn will discuss the ExaGrid product, and why it might just revolutionize the way you look at backup and archiving. With ExaGrid, you use your familiar backup software, most are supported, to backup and retain your data onto fast and reliable NAS shares on a grid of one or more fault tolerant, intelligent NAS appliances. Store weeks and even months of backups in a low space utilization, deduplicated format. Optionally, replicate that deduped data to another ExaGrid located at your remote DR site. We will discuss how the ExaGrid does what it does and then conclude with an actual case study. Glenn will be joined at the BNUG meeting by Jeff Crum, Senior Product Manager at ExaGrid Systems, Inc.
